Is Your Google Account at Risk For Malware Attacks?

Do you own an Android phone that operates on the old OS? You may be at risk for a recent malware attack that is affecting 13,000 Android phones per day.

Do you own an Android phone that operates on the old OS?  You may be at risk for a recent malware attack that is affecting 13,000 Android phones per day.  This adds up to over one million Google accounts that will be affected by the attack.  It’s a serious problem that potentially affects up to 75% of Android users.  With such huge and threatening numbers, maybe you should consider finding out if your Android is at risk, and whether or not you can prevent it from being affected.

What’s happening?

The malware is called Googlian.  It either sends phishing messages to your phone, or infects certain apps.  When you click a link in the message or download an affected app, you’re also opening up your phone to the attack.  The hackers will then have access to, essentially, all of your Google account.  Then, they’re going into Google reviews and writing excellent reviews for the infected apps so more people will download them.

How can you protect yourself?

First of all, here is a quick Googlian checker created by a cyber security software company called Check Point.  It will let you know whether or not you’ve been affected.  Other than that, security issues with Androids are nothing new.  Google is actively working to remove all affected apps from the store and attempting to protect its users.  In the meantime, don’t click on any links you see from suspicious messages.  Also, don’t download applications until Google works all of this out.
