Check Your Security Cameras Regularly for These Common Issues

Here are some of the most common issues that can arise with video surveillance and why it’s worth checking your security cameras frequently.
Whether you have had security cameras at your business for a long time and forget to check them or you just added video surveillance to your home and aren’t quite sure what to look for, you should be checking your security cameras. Here are some of the most common issues that can arise with video surveillance and why it’s worth checking your security cameras frequently.
Are the Lenses Clean?
This might sound silly, but think of your glasses or the lens on your cellphone camera and how often you need to clean it due to smudges or debris. Your security cameras are no different! As time goes by, dust, dirt, and water stains can form on your camera lenses and make the video basically unwatchable. Even small water stains can make the video surveillance footage so hazy or blurry that it can’t be helpful. If you have a camera with night vision, these stains and smears are especially noticeable so be careful.
Don’t Forget to Dust!
This is another thing that some people will find obvious, but check your security cameras for any cobwebs in the corners that they are in. Many people aren’t sure what the problem is with their security cameras and don’t realize that a spider took up residence in front of the lens! Many spiders and insects are actually attracted to security cameras, as they can see the IR light that your video surveillance emits.
Loose Connections Lose Footage
While your connections were probably perfect when the security camera was installed, they loosen over time. Weather, rust, corrosion, or pulling on the cables can all damage the connections and damage (or completely eliminate) your video feed. If you find your video is bouncing around, rolling, or cutting in and out this might be the problem.
